The two albums that led Dua Lipa to her record-breaking status are her debut album, Dua Lipa, and her latest album, Future Nostalgia, which just surpassed 10 billion streams this week. Dua Lipa’s self-titled album came out in 2017 and features hit songs such as “New Rules” and “IDGAF.” Future Nostalgia was initially released in 2020, with hits such as “Levitating” and “Break My Heart.” In 2021, Dua Lipa released a Moonlight Edition of Future Nostalgia, comprised of the original tracks and bonus tracks featuring Bad Bunny, Miley Cyrus, and DaBaby.
Dua Lipa’s self-titled album won her the Grammy for Best New Artist in 2019, and Future Nostalgia received several Grammy nominations, taking home the award for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2021.
Not only is Dua Lipa the first female artist to break this record, but she is also the only female artist to appear twice on the list of top ten most streamed albums on Spotify. As of February 16, Dua Lipa currently sits at number four on the list with 10.542 billion streams, and Future Nostalgia is at number six on the list, with 10 billion streams. Ed Sheeran’s album, Divide, is currently the most streamed album on Spotify, with albums by Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny, Post Malone, and the Weeknd also sitting comfortably in the top 10.

While Dua Lipa’s third studio album has yet to be announced, she has mentioned that it is currently in the works. In describing her new music, the global pop star stated: “It has a lyrical theme, more so than sonic. It’s still pop, so I’m not getting away from that. I still want to dance and have fun and do another crazy tour. It’s like a bit more mature in some ways.”
The worldwide success of her first two studio albums gives Dua Lipa a lot to live up to, but if anyone can do it, it is undoubtedly her.
