LONOKE COUNTY, Ark. (WKRC) – A father was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a man who was in a vehicle with his missing 14-year-old daughter.
On Tuesday, 36-year-old Aaron Spencer reported to the police that his daughter was missing. As police were on their way to Spencer’s home, Spencer found his daughter in a vehicle with 67-year-old Michael Fosler, according to Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office’s press release.
Spencer then shot and killed Fosler after a confrontation between the two men arose. Police arrested Spencer ona preliminary charge of first-degree murder, a Class Y felony, and he was booked into the Lonoke County Detention Center before being released the next day after posting bail, according to FOX News.
Class Y felonies are typically a sentence of at least 10 years to no more than 40 years, or life in prison, according to Justia.
FOX News reported that Spencer’s family had a no-contact order in place for Fosler because he had stalked and raped the 14-year-old over the summer.
“This guy that preyed upon their daughter was released on bond, and we had stopped him that night and got him with her,” said Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley to USA Today.
USA Today reported that the child’s mother had thought this time Fosler might be trying to kill her daughter because he was waiting a possible six to nine felonies and her daughter was the only witness.
The child’s mother set up a GoFundMe to pay for her husband’s legal fees but it was taken down because the website’s terms of not allowing people to raise money for legal defense of anyone charged with an alleged violent crime. Instead, she asked for money on Venmo and Cash App.
